Evaluations & Therapy

Is this for me?

You may be a parent concerned about your child's speech, language or communication, or you may have been referred by a medical provider or teacher.

If your child is showing signs of frustration around communication, or having challenging behaviors, therapy might offer support for both your child and family. Research supports early intervention rather than a "wait and see" approach.

Jenna offers brief consultations free of charge to determine if an evaluation would be helpful to gain further information. Click here to contact me for a consultation.

Who might benefit from speech and language therapy?

  • Children with language delays may demonstrate challenging behaviors and difficulty communicating with familiar (for example, a grandparent) and/or unfamiliar communication partners (for example, a new teacher)

  • Children and Adults who are non-verbal, partially verbal or single word communicators

  • Individuals who may have difficulty making their needs, thoughts and feelings known, limiting their ability to participate in activities of daily living, school settings and/or the community

What does the evaluation process look like?

Evaluations for speech and language delays/disorders take approximately 90 minutes. They often include a standardized assessment, caregiver interview, relevant medical history and child observation.

What does therapy look like?

Speech and language therapy combines child directed play and adult facilitation of opportunities to target individualized goals. Sessions consider client strengths, progress to date, current challenges and pathways towards goals. At the end of a session, Jenna will work with caregivers or teachers to collaboratively plan ways to practice and support emerging skills.
